Perrincombe Alabaster Wall Sconce
Description
The Perrincombe Alabaster Wall Sconce is modeled on the half-bowl wall lamps of old Mediterranean houses: a cup cut in half and set flat against the plaster. open at the top so the light climbs the wall. The bowl here is a single piece of Spanish alabaster. carved thin and flaring outward at the rim. with honey and grey veins running through it. Instead of a bracket. a loop of round brass wire cradles the stone like a sling. pinned at each side with a small brass ball. and where the two ends meet below the bowl they close on a coiled spiral medallion. the volute you find on Ionic columns and on ancient bronze fibulae from the same coast.
